These are some of the major startup and business communities on Reddit which you can use to share your ideas get feedback, and get answers to any of your queries. Make sure you don’t directly post something. Join communities and interact with people, help others with their doubts, and then post about your ideas.

Having karma on Reddit helps a lot, I’ve seen that most posts that go viral on Reddit have at least mid-3-digit karma. Having post and comment karma means you are an active user and people see that as someone providing value.

Other than the mentioned communities, you can join a lot of niche communities that are specific to the problems you are solving. For example for Audionotes (An Audiofirst note-taking tool) our target users are people who journal, creators, etc so we searched for communities where these people hang out like r/journaling, r/notetaking, r/productivityapps, etc.

Here are a few ways to find communities for your product:

  1. Identify your target groups and search for communities where your audience is hanging out
  2. Search for primary keywords of your brand and look for communities where users are talking about it. eg: For Audinotes we searched for keywords Transcribe and Summarize and looked for communities where people are asking how to transcribe audio

How to post in these communities:

This is a tricky part, in most of the communities on Reddit, you can’t post directly about your product, that will be considered as self-promotion and in a lot of cases you will get banned from the community. Here are a few ways you can post in communities

  1. Write a post about solving a problem which your app is solving without using your app in few steps and at the end subtly plug your app by explaining how using it can save you time.
  2. Post it as a user. make sure you use a different account to do this, talk about the problem and share your tool as a solution to it. Again this should not be click baity, providing value is our goal in all cases.
  3. No generic posts – While posting in different communities make sure you personalize title and post in a way it appeals and talk to people hanging out in that community. Otherwise, they will consider it as spam and report you, again resulting in getting blocked from the community.

Here’s an example of how the founder of Bluedot posted on Reddit

He just asked a question which is highly relatable to employees hanging out in the community r/antiwork. The post got 5000+ upvotes and 522+ comments.
